English in The Philippines

English is one of the official languages as well as Filipino.In the Philippines you will seldom have communication troubles in English. However many have strong accent when they speak English.

(1)Stress
A stress in a word is often put on the last vowel sound.For example, the word "fifty" often sounds like fifteen.

(2)Unique pronunciations
"R" sound is strong and trilled.For example, "father" is often pronounced as "fatherr".
"Z" is often pronounced as "SI".For example, Zero is pronounced as "Siiro".
"DI" is often pronounced as "JYO".For example, "Video" is often pronounced as "Vi-jyo".
"TUS" offten pronounced as "toos".For example, "status" is often pronounced as "sta-toos".

(3)Unique words
"Civil Status" is a Philippine made word that means "married or single".It often pronounced "Civil Sta-toos".
They sometimes use "already" in a conversation.For example, "I'm going there already." simply means "I'm going there now."

(4)Yes and No
"Yes" sometimes means "I'm affirmative to your question".They often say "Yes" when they agree with you.
For example, when you ask someone "You didn't go there?" and suppose one answers "Yes"."Yes" probably means "Yes you are right.I didn't go there." though grammatically "Yes" means "Yes, I went there."
